How do I get my website to show up in Google?

Everyone wants their website to show up in Google, and more importantly on page one of the search. The reality is it takes effort to make this happen especially if you aren’t doing paid for ads. It is by no means impossible but you have to take the right steps and understand what is impacting your website in the search.

Why you aren’t showing up in Google?

There could be several reasons why a website doesn’t show in Google. Most of the time it is a combination of several things related to the website’s SEO, content, structure, and implementation. Like anything else, fix one thing and move on till you get everything the way you need it.

Here are things you need to check for

  • Search engines have to be able to find your website. Don’t think that because you build a page or website that the searches will just know it is there. For your website or pages to be picked up by searches, it has to be crawled and indexed. • There are several factors that go into SEO (search engine optimization) and it is a lot of trial and error. Once you build meta tags for keywords, description, alt tags, and page titles, you should watch their performance. Most of the time people don’t use enough keywords, and they don’t use their keywords in all the meta tags. Check out this Starter Guider by Google on SEO.
  • Your website should be easy to navigate. When someone lands on your website they should be able to clearly understand how to get around and find what they are looking for. Besides the visual look and feel of your site, you want to make sure that URL names are short and clear. This way if someone finds your URL, they understand what the page represents (example: truvisibility.com/about).
  • Content is king! Your website should have enough content that helps someone understand what your site is about, but it should also include enough content with keywords to help Google rank your site. Make certain your website doesn’t lack content and the content includes the keywords you put in the meta tags.
  • I will say this one again, just because it is important. Keywords! From SEO, URL’s, and content, your keywords are so important. This is how people will find you. Remember that you are competing with many different websites using those same keywords, so you have to pick and use the right keywords on your website. To get found takes a lot of coming back to your website and making changes till you find the right combination.
