Why Build Landing Pages?

Landing pages are not to be confused with home pages. The home page is the “front door” of your site and the first thing people see, while a landing page is a page on your site with a single purpose, sometimes called a “call to action.” That single purpose can be to encourage your visitors to sign up for a service, buy a product, join a mailing list, or convert visitors to take any other specific action.

Broadly, a landing page is a powerful marketing technique that serves both as a traffic-generating tool and a conversion machine.

While the average conversion rate for landing pages is 9.7%, adding elements like images or social proof may further increase your conversions. As a result, creating a good landing page is crucial to boosting your business.

In this article, we will show you three easy and effective methods on how to create a landing page in WordPress and discuss when to do it.

What's a WordPress Landing Page?

A landing page is focused on a single goal, so it’s common for these pages to not display some typical site elements like a menu, sidebar, or footer. If you’d like to take this approach, choose a theme for your site that supports the site or page editor, so you have full control over the elements displayed on your landing page. If you’re not sure which theme to choose, a blank template is a good option.

Any landing page in WordPress that you build is considered a WordPress landing page. WordPress landing pages are often created using a plugin. We will discuss plugins in a little bit, but we will start on what you can do with landing page templates in WordPress as well.

Note on Landing Page Templates

Only intersested in alnding page templates (not necessarily from WordPress)? Most templates are designed to block out the unnecessary widgets and extra stuff that won't result in a high conversion rate, which will only help you see results from any campaign you build in your email builder. How to Create a Landing Page in WordPress

You need more than a great-looking WordPress site. You need a way to capture the attention of your target audience to go to your website in the first place. You also need them to be enticed enough to enter their personal information for further marketing your business plans to do.

Here's how to create a landing page in WordPress, and what tools are available to help streamline the landing page process.

What are the basic steps you should take when building first-class landing pages in WordPress?

1) Select a theme.

Pick a theme from My Site > Design > Themes in your WordPress dashboard, or download and install a new theme. Then, click on the three dots next to the theme’s name and click Activate.

2) Remove unnecessary content.

Simple is the goal for your landing page, so the next step is removing extra posts and pages. Go to My Site > Site > Pages, then click on the three dots next to any page you don’t need and click Trash. It doesn’t matter which page you keep.

3) Set your homepage.

Using the three dots next to the page you choose to keep, set it as your static homepage. This isn’t the same as your regular homepage — instead, it ensures that your customized landing page is where visitors land when they click through from your main WordPress site.

4) Creating your page.

5) Make your landing page live.

Click update to publish your page, and then link to it from your main WordPress site.

If you prefer a more customized look for your landing page, it’s possible to dig deeper into code and do it yourself. You’ll need some HTML and CSS skill to make this work. Here’s how you can make a more customized landing page:

Create a child theme - The current theme of your WordPress site is often called the “parent theme.” To ensure any landing pages you create don’t adversely affect this theme, start by creating a child theme.

You'll have to input the following codes into your child theme folder, which can be easily found online:

  • A style.css file
  • Build a functions.php file
  • Install an activate your child theme
  • Create a custom page
  • Create a custom header
  • Add images

You can add extra content and style with CSS for more customization to your homepage, even. Any WordPress theme you use will look like a pro did it and can be applied to your current domain.

What Is a Landing Page Plugin?

Creating a landing page in WordPress is fairly easy when using a WordPress landing page plugin. Even if you’re not a developer, you can create a high-converting landing page in WordPress and boost your website traffic and sales by using a plugin.

There are several WordPress landing page plugins on the market. However, not all plugins are created equal.

Types of Landing Page Plugins

With a WordPress landing page plugin, there are a few more steps to take into consideration. Most apps have this plugin option already. If not, it is easy to find a plugin, which you will often have to pay for.

SeedProd

First, you’ll need to visit the SeedProd website and purchase the plugin. Then, you can download the plugin file to your computer and copy the plugin license key. Or, if you’d like to try the lite version of SeedProd first, you can download it from wordpress.org.

Next, you’ll have to log into your WordPress dashboard and install the plugin. If you need detailed instructions, here’s our step-by-step guide to installing a WordPress plugin. After it’s installed, don’t forget to activate it with the "Verify Key" button.

If you’ve added an opt-in form to your landing page to capture leads and grow your email list, you need to connect your email marketing service. To do that, click on the Connect tab at the top of the screen. You can integrate which email app you currently use.

After this step, don't forget to design the landing page by choosing the building blocks that make up the page, whether they are form fields, widgets like images and gifs, or other elements you'd like to add. Remember to save and preview your landing page before publishing.

There should be a "Publish" button to publish your WordPress landing page to your site.

  • Divi – Div is one of the best WordPress page builders with an intuitive visual editor.
